No Ride To The Wall in 2010   The letter from Jon Longair

Ride To The Wall logo

Below is the letter posted on 28 AUG 2009 from The "Grand Poo Bah" Jon Longair to all who have made the Southrn Style Ride to The Wall in the past.

This website will remain on-line in hopes that some individual or corporation picks up the idea and runs with it.

To all my RTTW friends,

With very mixed emotions I am writing you tonight to let you know that I will not be putting on the 2010 “Ride to the Wall…Southern Style”.  There are many reasons that have played a part in me not doing the ride next year but the three primary reasons are 1) work; my job has taken another negative turn and my seniority is going backward not forward.  2) Liability; I keep being told by people who should know that I truly am hanging my butt out putting on this ride myself.  3) Financial concerns; had it not been for the people that donated money I would have lost a large sum of money (at least large to me) putting on the ride.  The ride is a great ride for a great cause but it needs to be put on by more than an individual with the help of many of the riders.  I had a tremendous amount of help this year from people donating their time and work and I am very grateful to all of you that helped me out.  2009 “Ride to the Wall…Southern Style” was and had the best riders I have ridden with in a group that size ever in my riding life.  I also felt we were just getting the organizational part of the ride figured out but as I started talking about gearing up for the preparations for next year, things started happening that I have become very uncomfortable with.  Work being the primary problem.  I really hate that work would be able to influence this so heavily but if the truth be known, I did not even get released from work this year until three weeks before the ride and I only got out of it because I took a leave of absence.  Then for those of you that know I got the kidney stones and have been out most of the summer. (Go figure!)

I will only disappoint someone if I try to thank all the people that have worked with me over the past three years but I will thank David Prevette and his “posse” for if it were not for him this would never have taken place as it has.  I want to thank all the dealer sponsors with special gratitude to Don Tilley and Bruce and Will Rossmeyer because again without their assistance the dream would have remained just a dream.  And my thanks to all of you that have come along and those that helped me out in many ways…thank you.

We rode to honor our veterans…let us never forget what they have done for us every day.

Till we ride,

Jon
